All A-Boat Daisy's Journey in Yachting!

My name is Daisy Kelliher and I am the chief stew from Below Deck Sailing Season 2 & 3.

My career in yachting started at a young age, being introduced to sailing as young as 2. I began to learn how to sail at 11 and grew up with my father sharing stories from his time of yachting and travelling the world.  I have been lucky enough to grow up in a family where travelling was always encouraged from a young age, so the thirst to see the world has been there for as long as I can remember.

When the time came to “decide what to do with the rest of my life”, most parents encourage their children to continue on to study further education. My father insisted I go into yachting. At the tender age of 17 I had no idea what he was talking about and had images of me in the Navy. I lost interest pretty quickly. Of course Dad always had a plan for me so then he suggested I study hotel management. I spent the next 5 years studying hotel management and absolutely loved it.  I spent my second year on placement in Brussels and this is where I had my first experience with sun damage. My father came to visit me for a weekend and I noticed a growth on his hand. It turned out it was benign skin cancer and he had it removed, but petrified me!

After I graduated, I moved to London for two years. The long hours, lack of sun, and most importantly, lack of money quickly made me reconsider my decisions. I went away to Andorra skiing with my Dad and the week consisted of me looking to him for advice for the future. By the end of the week, he had me convinced that yachting was for me.

So, at 25 I moved to Antibes to start my career in yachting and 8 years later I found myself on Below Deck. I have worked on all sorts of boats from sailing to motor, big, small, private and charter. The majority of my career has been on medium private sailboats, travelling the world. During this time I got to explore French Polynesia, Alaska, Cuba, Sweden, Denmark, Thailand, Bali, New Zealand, most of the Mediterranean and Caribbean… just to name a few. I have visited the most beautiful places in the world, experienced the most incredible cultures all while working for the nicest people and working with the most loving crews.

My mother is French so I was blessed with sallow skin. I LOVE the sun and I definitely took advantage of the sun with my life on the sea. I never paid too much attention to sun damage until I turned 30 and my attitude rapidly changed. Like everyone at some point in his or her life, they take things more seriously and this was the moment I took sun care seriously, both for my health and for my vanity! I saw my skin change: more freckles, my moles changing, pigmentation and sunspots on my face. It was crazy how quickly it changed seemingly overnight. I now regularly get my moles checked and I wear SPF every day on my face. I´m not only concerned with the sun, but also the wind, air conditioning, the flying conditions, the city air. My skin is never safe!!! I’m so grateful to have found CōTZ Sunscreen. With such a huge variety of products, there is protection for my skin for any occasion.
